9 Masks of Voodoo Overview

9 Masks of Voodoo is a five-reel horror slot from Spinmatic with 20 fixed paylines, an RTP of 94.72% and a release date of 16 October 2024. Spinmatic has not published a volatility rating or a maximum win for it, so neither figure appears in our data panel.

The game’s name is also its main mechanic. Alongside a conventional line-pays paytable sits a Voodoo Mask scatter that pays for between three and nine masks anywhere on the screen, and nine of them is the most valuable result in the game by a wide margin.

A Witch’s Kitchen by Candlelight

The reels sit inside a stone cellar under a round window lit by a purple night sky. A bubbling green cauldron fills the bottom of the screen, a mortar and pestle and a small stitched voodoo doll sit to the left, and a cluster of dripping candles burns on the right.

The symbols mix classic fruit-machine icons with the theme: BAR plates, several different sevens, a blue gem, a green potion bottle and a skull resting on a spell book. The theme items are the ones that carry the story; the sevens carry most of the money.

Two special symbols stand out. The Wild is a hooded voodoo priest, and the Free Spin symbol is a stitched doll inside a glowing green ring.

The Mask Ladder on the Left

The most distinctive part of the screen is the LEVELS ladder on the left, which lists what each count of masks is worth. At the €80 bet it reads, from the bottom: X3 €80, X4 €400, X5 €800, X6 €4,000, X7 €10,000, X8 €48,000 and X9 €160,000.

Converted into multiples of the stake, that ladder is 1x, 5x, 10x, 50x, 125x, 600x and 2,000x. The same multipliers appear on the ladder during free spins, where it switches from cash values to plain numbers.

The curve is steep. Three masks only return the stake, and even six masks are worth 50x; the real prizes sit on the top three rungs, and the ninth mask more than triples the value of the eighth.

The mask ladder also lights up as you play. In one capture three masks landed and the X3 rung was highlighted as the game paid €80; in the free spins, four masks landed together and paid €400, exactly the X4 rung.

The Paytable

The line-pays side of the game is conventional: wins pay left to right on the 20 lines, only the highest win per line is paid, and wins on different lines are added together.

At the €80 bet the Wild pays €8,000 for five, which is 100x. The richest of the sevens pays €4,000 for five (50x), €2,000 for four and €400 for three; the next pays €1,600, €800 and €300.

Further down the table, the plain seven pays €800 for five, the blue gem €400, the skull €200 and the stacked triple seven €160. The green potion and the BAR are the cheapest symbols, at €80 for five.

So on the line side, the best a single line can do without wilds is 50x, and even five wilds on one line pay 100x. The 2,000x on the mask ladder is twenty times that, which tells you where the game keeps its big results.

How the Base Game Plays

Our captures show the base game paying in the small-to-medium range. One spin paid €160 (2x) from a mix of sevens, another €100 (1.25x), and the three-mask hit paid €80.

These are modest results against an €80 stake, which fits a game whose line paytable is fairly flat and whose top prizes are reserved for large numbers of masks.

To the right of the reels, a small panel shows a mask with the label x3–6 and the caption “Increase your winnings”. The game does not explain it further in our captures, so we have not guessed at what triggers it.

The Free Spins Wheel

Free spins are not awarded directly. Landing the Free Spin doll symbols opens a two-ring bonus wheel: the outer ring holds numbers of spins, and the inner ring holds a multiplier.

The outer ring we captured shows values of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 free spins, and the inner ring shows x2, x3, x4 and x5. A golden skull at the top of the wheel marks the result.

Our spin of the wheel stopped on 10 spins with an x2 multiplier. The round then opened with a scoreboard on the right reading “Free Spins 0/10, Multiplier X2, Winnings €0.00”.

That means the free spins round can range from a short five-spin run to a thirty-spin session with a fivefold multiplier, and the wheel decides which before the first spin.

What the Free Spins Did

Halfway through the round, at 5/10, the scoreboard showed accumulated winnings of €912, or 11.4x the stake.

The biggest single hit in that stretch was the four-mask result mentioned above, paying €400. A Wild also landed on the fourth reel in the same capture, which shows the priest does appear during the bonus.

One detail is worth noting. The four-mask hit in the free spins paid €400, which is the plain X4 value on the ladder, even though the round was running with an x2 multiplier. Our captures therefore do not show the wheel multiplier being added to mask wins, and we would not assume that it is.

What the capture does confirm is that masks keep paying in the bonus, that wilds keep appearing, and that the scoreboard adds every result to a running total. A round like ours reached more than 11x the stake after five spins without a single large hit.

The bigger rounds would come from a longer wheel result – twenty-five or thirty spins rather than ten – and from a mask count on the upper rungs of the ladder, where each extra mask multiplies the prize several times over.

9 Masks of Voodoo suits players who like a clearly stated target. The mask ladder is always on screen, it tells you exactly what each count is worth, and the jump from 125x to 600x to 2,000x gives every mask-heavy spin some tension.
