Alchemy Quest Level Up is a magic-themed ways slot from Spadegaming, released on 12 June 2024. It plays on 6 reels of up to seven symbols each, which gives a maximum of 117,649 ways to win, and it builds its identity around levels: gold versions of the premium symbols that pay far more than their silver twins.

A Wizard’s Workshop

The game runs in a tall portrait frame against a purple sky filled with stars, a crystal ball and a jewelled ring. Above the reels sit a pointed wizard hat and a glowing orb; below them, a bar reads LEVEL 5 – CREDIT: 60 next to a row of five golden symbols.

The symbols are the tools of an alchemist: a wizard hat, a spell book, a potion, a ring and a golden coin, plus the card ranks from 9 to A in gold lettering. Each premium symbol comes in a silver and a gold version, and the gold one is the one to hope for.

Ways, Cascades and Wilds

The rules page explains the ways system with two small diagrams: wins are paid for adjacent symbols from the leftmost reel, only the highest win for each symbol is paid, and ways wins are combined and added. The grid changes size from spin to spin, which is where the dynamic count of up to 117,649 ways comes from.

After a win the winning symbols burst in a flash of light and new ones fall into place, so one spin can pay several times. A WILD tile substitutes for the regular symbols, and a separate SCATTER tile leads to the free games.

The Paytable

The paytable is printed in cash for the current bet. At €12.00 the gold symbols clearly stand apart from the silver ones:

• Gold hat: 400 for six, 150 for five, 60 for four, 20 for three and 10 for two – six are worth 33x the bet, and it is the only symbol that pays for two.
• Gold book: 200 / 100 / 40 / 20. Gold potion: 150 / 70 / 35 / 16. Gold ring: 120 / 60 / 30 / 16.
• Silver hat: 80 / 40 / 20 / 10. Silver book: 60 / 30 / 16 / 8. Silver potion: 50 / 25 / 14 / 7. Silver ring: 40 / 20 / 12 / 6.

The difference is large: a gold hat pays five times as much as a silver one for six of a kind, and a gold book more than three times as much as a silver book. That is why the level system matters. The card ranks at the bottom of the table pay much less, starting at 30 for six.

The Level System

According to Spadegaming’s game description, four or more scatters open a free games feature with five ascending levels, and each level adds more golden symbols to the reels and larger payouts. During the free games you pick potions, which unlock Magic Portals that lock symbols in place for further wins.

Our captures were all taken at Level 5, with the bar showing a credit of 60. We did not see a level change during the session, so we describe the system as the game presents it rather than from our own play.

Scatters and Wilds in Play

Our captures show both special tiles in action. In one spin a red SCATTER tile and a WILD tile landed side by side in the middle of the grid while a cascade of 9s, 10s and Js paid €30.00. In another, a single scatter sat at the top of reel 6 while jacks cascaded across the reels for €50.00. A lone scatter does nothing on its own – the free games need four or more – but the captures show how often they appear during normal play.

The wild tile is marked with a small crystal ball and the word WILD. It fills the gaps in the ways between matching symbols, which is especially useful on a grid where one missing symbol on a middle reel breaks the whole chain.

What the Session Paid

Most of our spins paid small amounts from cascades of gold and silver symbols: €20.00, €28.00, €30.00, €50.00 and €60.00 – between 1.7x and 5x the bet. The best result came from a long chain of cascades that lit up almost the whole grid and paid €240.00, or 20x the bet.

The balance moved between roughly €1,800 and €2,110 across the captures, which fits a game where the base game pays steadily and the free games are meant to carry the big results.

The Numbers to Keep in Mind

With no published RTP, volatility or maximum win, the best guide is the paytable itself. The top single result on the table is 33x for six gold hats, so large wins depend on cascades, multiple ways and the golden symbols of the higher levels working together.
