Diamond Explosion Christmas Tango is a five-reel, three-row slot from Ruby Play with 50 fixed paylines and an RTP of 96.33%. It was released on 8 October 2024, and bets run from 0.10 to 30 per spin. Ruby Play does not publish a volatility rating or a maximum win for this title.

The name promises a tango, and the art delivers something closer to a caper film set at Christmas. The backdrop is a blur of red and purple party lights, and a pile of wrapped presents and banknotes sits in the centre of the jackpot bar.

The characters are a platinum-blonde woman in dark glasses and a Santa with the same dark glasses and a cigar. Around them are the tools of a job: a blueprint of the target, a note reading 12 am sealed with a lipstick kiss, a martini beside a glass of whisky, and a red grenade tied with a bow.

The lower symbols are card suits – a green club, a red heart, a red diamond and a green spade – drawn in the same glossy style. The large cut diamonds that give the game its name sit above everything else on the grid.

Four Fixed Jackpots

Four jackpot plates run along the top of the reels, and they move with the bet. At €10.00 they read:

GRAND €8,000.00 (800x), MAJOR €500.00 (50x), MINOR €150.00 (15x) and MINI €100.00 (10x).

At €5.00 every plate is exactly half: €4,000, €250, €75 and €50. The jackpots are therefore fixed multipliers of the bet rather than progressive pools, and their relative size never changes.

The gap between them is worth noting. The MAJOR is only a sixteenth of the GRAND, and the two smallest plates are close together. In practice the GRAND is the only jackpot that moves a session on its own; the other three sit in the same range as a good line win.

The two character symbols sit above these on the paytable and are not shown in our capture. One base game spin gives a sense of them: four blonde women along the bottom row paid €14.00 on the €10.00 bet, or 1.4x.

The picture is clear enough. With fifty lines and line prizes this small, the base game is built on frequent, modest wins, and the real value of the game sits in the diamonds and the jackpots.

Buying the Bonus

A green BUY FEATURE button sits to the left of the reels, and it shows its price in money rather than as a multiplier. At a €10.00 bet it reads €1,000.00; at €5.00 it reads €500.00. Both are 100x the bet.

Pressing it brings up a plain confirmation screen – Are you sure you want to purchase Free Games at the cost of €500.00? – with a green YES and a red NO. There is no tiered menu and no choice of bonus type: one price buys the standard free games round.

The Free Games Round

The round opens on a crosshair graphic announcing 8 FREE GAMES and one extra rule: a random Diamond Explosion reel in every free game.

Explosion Free Games

Inside the free games there is a second mode. A splash screen reads 5 EXPLOSION FREE GAMES AWARDED, with the instruction LINK diamonds FOR BIGGER PRIZES, and a separate EXPLOSION FREE GAMES counter appears in the centre of the jackpot bar.

In this mode, diamonds carry cash values. Our capture shows several single diamonds worth €10.00 each (2x the €5.00 bet) and one enormous diamond, formed by linking a block of them together, worth €200.00 (40x).

That is the whole point of the feature: a block of linked diamonds pays far more than the same diamonds counted separately. The game description adds that six or more prize symbols trigger the Explosion Free Games.

The counter at the top runs down from five to zero as the explosion spins are played, and our capture of the 200.00 diamond was taken with the counter already at zero – the last explosion spin of the set.

A few figures summarise the game. The best fixed jackpot is 800x. The buy costs 100x. Our bought round returned 112.9x, and a single merged diamond was worth 40x.

The line wins sit at the other end of the scale: the best visible five of a kind is 3x, and the card suits pay a single bet for five. Nearly everything interesting in this game happens during the free games.
