Golden Mahjong Deluxe is a mahjong-themed video slot from Funky Games, released on 6 August 2024. Instead of fruit or card royals, the reels are filled with classic mahjong tiles – dragons, characters, bamboos and dots – and the wins tumble, climb a multiplier ladder and can turn into golden tiles along the way. Funky Games describes it as a fresh take on Chinese mahjong, aimed at players who already know the tiles from the table game.

How the Ways Work

A win needs matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. The rules explain the count with a simple example: if a symbol appears once on reel 1, three times on reel 2 and twice on reel 3, that is 1x3x2 = 6 winning ways, and the symbol’s payout is multiplied by six.

Because the middle reels hold five tiles each, stacks of the same tile can multiply a small win quickly. In one of our spins red dragons landed once on reel 1, three times on reel 2, once on reel 3 and three times on reel 4 – that is 1x3x1x3 = 9 ways, and the four-of-a-kind prize of 100 on nine ways gave a 900 win at a stake of 125.

Theme and Graphics

The game is played in portrait mode, with the tiles set against a deep blue wave pattern and a green banner at the top. The tiles look like real mahjong pieces: white faces, rounded edges and the familiar red and green characters. The design is clean and very easy to read on a phone.

Paytable

The green dragon (發) is the top tile and pays 250 for five, 125 for four and 50 for three. The red dragon (中) pays 200, 100 and 40, and the white dragon 150, 75 and 30. The eight of characters pays 75, 50 and 25.

The lower tiles are the bamboos and dots, paying from 60 for five down to 5 for three. These values are multiplied by the number of ways, so a common tile with many ways can still pay well.

Tumbles and the Multiplier Ladder

After every win the winning tiles are removed and new ones drop into place. Above the reels is a ladder of x1, x2, x3 and x5, and the highlighted multiplier moves up the ladder as the tumbles in the same spin continue. In one spin the ladder had already moved to x2 while the win counter showed 20.

Golden Tiles and Wilds

Some tiles land with a golden frame. In our screenshots these tiles lit up in a burst of light when they were part of a win, instead of simply disappearing – this is the Symbol Evolve feature in the official list, which Funky Games describes as symbol upgrades. The wild is a pair of gold ingots marked WILD, and it stands in for the regular tiles.

Scatters and Free Games

There are two scatters: the red 胡 tile and a golden scatter with a green 胡. In our session two red scatters and one golden scatter landed together, and the game awarded 10 free games.

The prize screen explained what the golden scatter adds: all symbols on the 2nd and 4th reels are gold-plated and all multipliers are x5. With the ladder multiplied by five, the free games offer by far the biggest wins in the game.

The Buy Free Spins button offers two versions. At a stake of 125, the standard round with multipliers from x2 to x10 cost 7,500, and the golden round with multipliers from x5 to x25 cost 18,750.
