Lord of the Keys Overview

Lord of the Keys is a three-by-three slot from Platipus with 27 ways, a 95.1% RTP, a medium volatility rating and a published ceiling of 2,000x. It was released on 17 January 2025.

All figures below were read from demo play at a $50.00 total bet. The footer states the format under the reels: PLAY 27 WAYS.

An Egyptian Hall

The reels stand in a temple hall between two seated jackal statues, with sandstone columns and shafts of golden light behind them. It is a warm, expensive-looking setting for a nine-position game.

The symbols are Egyptian: a scarab, the Eye of Horus, an ankh, a lotus crown, a ruby, an emerald and two coloured triangles.

The Paytable Is Tiny and Honest

Platipus quotes it in multipliers, and on a three-by-three grid there is only one band – three of a kind. The scarab pays 10, the Eye and the ankh pay 7, the lotus 6, the two gems 2, and the two triangles 1.

So the best line on the game is worth ten times the stake and the cheapest is worth exactly the stake back. Eight symbols, one band each – it is the simplest paytable in this batch by a distance.

The captured base wins sit exactly where that table predicts: $60.00 (1.2x), $70.00 (1.4x) and $80.00 (1.6x) at the $50.00 stake.

Four Jackpots, and the GRAND Is the Ceiling

The left rail carries GRAND 100,000, MAJOR 25,000, MINOR 5,000 and MINI 2,500. At the $50.00 stake those convert to 2,000x, 500x, 100x and 50x.

And the top one is the whole game: the GRAND at 2,000x is exactly the published maximum win. There is nothing above it, and nothing else on the game can reach it – the ceiling is the jackpot.

That also explains the paytable. When the real prize is a fixed jackpot, the symbols only have to keep you spinning, and 10x for the best line is enough to do that.

The Coins

Gold coins land among the symbols carrying cash values – 50, 150 and 250 in the captures. At this stake that is 1x, 3x and 5x on a single position.

A 250 coin is therefore worth half of the best line on the game, and a single position is a quarter of a nine-cell grid. On a small grid, coins matter more than they would on a big one.

Twelve Free Spins, and a Growing Grid

The award screen states the mechanic in two lines: 12 FREE SPINS, and beneath it COLLECT 🔑 TO UNLOCK REEL ARRAYS.

So the keys do not pay – they make the grid bigger. And the captures show it happening: inside the round the playing area is no longer three by three. The top half carries a wider array of symbols while golden gates occupy the bottom, each marked with a number – 8 and 14 in one capture.

Those gates are the arrays still locked. Collect enough keys and they open, which is the clearest visual explanation of a grid-expansion mechanic we have seen.

What the Round Paid

Inside the round the numbers improve immediately. One spin with the expanded array paid $240.00 – 4.8x – against base wins that had been running at 1.2x to 1.6x.

The TOTAL WIN field reads $560.00 at that point, with eight of the twelve spins still to run – and by the last spin of the round it reads $1,155.00. Against the $50.00 stake that is 23.1x.

The final capture also shows how far the expansion had gone: three of the four arrays were open, filling the left and top of the screen with symbols, and only one gate remained – marked 3. That last spin alone paid $280.00, which is 5.6x, and it is no coincidence that the biggest single spin came when the grid was at its largest.

Put the two halves side by side: base spins at 1.2x to 2.8x, and free spins at 4.8x and 5.6x on a grid two or three arrays wider. The keys are worth roughly double per spin, and they compound with the spins remaining.

The balance across the captures runs $9,465.00, 8,565.00, 8,545.00 and $8,445.00 – a fall of about $1,000, or 20x the stake, over the same stretch.

Two more base results fill in the range: $140.00 (2.8x) from a grid of Eyes of Horus and $100.00 (2x) from pyramids. So even a full nine-cell grid of a mid-tier symbol is worth under three times the stake.

A 95.1% Return

The number that has to be said: 95.1% is below average. Together with a medium volatility rating and a paytable that peaks at 10x, it means this game is designed to be played steadily rather than chased.

What you are paying that return for is visible on the rail: four fixed jackpots, the largest of which is the maximum win. That is a legitimate trade, but it should be a conscious one.

The free-spins counter sits in a winged plate above the reels – FREE 12 SPINS, then 8, then 1 – and the gates keep their numbers visible throughout, so at any moment you can see both how many spins and how many arrays are left.

The Interface

The controls are spare: BALANCE bottom-left, TOTAL BET bottom-right, a spin key and a fast-forward on the right, and a menu, full-screen and sound trio on the left. A long bet reference number is printed in the top-left corner of every spin.

The win amount appears in a plate across the foot of the reels with WIN written under it, so the grid is never obscured.

Who Should Play It

Lord of the Keys is for players who want a small, calm Egyptian game with an honest jackpot ladder. The GRAND being the published ceiling is refreshingly straightforward, the key-collection expanding the grid is a clean idea, and 27 ways on nine positions keeps every spin quick to read.

The reservations are the 95.1% return and a paytable where three triangles return exactly the stake. Outside the free spins there is very little happening here – and the round has to be waited for, as there is no buy button on screen.
