How we rate games

Every slot is scored on the same four criteria, using the game's published data: RTP (40%), maximum win potential (25%), bonus features described in our review (30%) and how recent the release is (5%). Our editors can adjust a score after playing the game. Missing data counts as neutral. The score reflects the game's numbers and features, not your chances of winning; slots are games of chance, so please play responsibly.

Luck & Magic Overview

Luck & Magic is a compact fantasy slot from BGaming, released on 3 August 2023. Instead of spinning reels it deals cards: nine cards land face down on a 3x3 table and flip over after each spin. There are 5 fixed win lines – the three rows and the two diagonals. The RTP is 96.23% (the game has RTP ranges), the volatility is high and bets run from 0.10 to 100 per spin.

Cards With Their Own Multipliers

Every card carries its value in the top-left corner. In our screenshots the 10 is marked x1, the K and the red and green rune cards x4, the green-haired enchantress x8, the knight x40 and the orc warrior x60. A line of three identical cards pays that multiplier times the total bet, which our wins confirm exactly.

Our Base-Game Wins

All screenshots were taken at a total bet of 50 FUN:

  • 250.00 (5x) – nine 10s, so all five lines paid 50 each.
  • 600.00 (12x) – three lines of Ks at 200 each.
  • 400.00 (8x) – two lines of Ks, with a Bonus card and a knight also on the table.
  • 200.00 (4x) – a single row of Ks, shown as “Line 2 pays”.

BGaming’s rules put the base-game ceiling at 60x the bet, which matches one line of orcs.

Bet Settings and Line Values

You only choose a total bet, from 0.10 to 100, and it is spread over the five lines. Because a line pays its card multiplier times the total bet, the table is easy to read: at a 1.00 bet a row of 10s returns 1.00, a row of Ks 4.00 and a row of orcs 60.00. At the 100 maximum, the same row of orcs is worth 6,000.

SlotCatalog lists a hit frequency of 12.28%, so on average roughly one spin in eight lands a winning line. Most of those are the x1 and x4 cards, which is why the larger payouts depend so heavily on the character cards and the bonus pick.

Autospins

The A button opens the autospin menu. Besides the number of rounds, BGaming lets you stop the sequence on any win, when the bonus game is triggered, when a single win exceeds a set amount, or when your balance rises or falls by a chosen sum.

The Bonus Game

Three Bonus symbols – the white-bearded wizard card – on reels 1, 2 and 3 start the bonus game. Five cards are laid out face down and you pick one. The multiplier printed on your card is applied to your bet, and the other four are then turned over so you can see what you missed.

Buy Bonus

The Buy Bonus button next to the table goes straight to the card pick. At our 50 FUN bet it cost 4,000 FUN, or 80x the stake, and the price moves with the bet.

Max Win

The game’s own banner reads MAX WIN x999, the figure SlotCatalog lists as well. The official rules add that a bonus-game win is capped at 999x the bet, and that the absolute ceiling across the game is 1,059x.

Theme and Presentation

The table sits on a worn wooden board with claws and a red leather trim, and each spin flips the cards with a short burst of light. The character art is detailed, and the big win figures stretch across a red banner in the middle of the grid.

Who It Is For

Luck & Magic suits players who like very short rounds and a clear picture of what each line is worth. With only five lines, a 12.28% hit frequency on SlotCatalog and the bigger payouts saved for the card pick, it is a high-volatility game despite its tiny grid.
