Pop Zen Overview

Pop Zen is a cluster-pays slot from BGaming, released on 8 February 2024. It is built around the pop-it fidget toy – the colourful silicone bubbles that, as BGaming puts it, are “similar to bubble wraps” and “known for their relaxing effect”. The reels are a 7x7 grid of those bubbles, winning clusters pop out of the board, and new bubbles drop in from above. BGaming describes it as a slot “with refilling reels and Match-3 elements”.

The maximum win is 12,000x the bet – €240,000 at the top stake of €20, with bets starting at €0.20. SlotCatalog lists a 96.25% RTP; BGaming’s own game page rounds it to 96.3% and rates the volatility very high.

The Bubble Grid

The grid sits in a rounded purple frame floating among cartoon clouds on a blue sky. Most of the board is plain round bubbles in orange, green, turquoise, blue and pink – the low symbols. The premium symbols are shaped buttons pressed into coloured squares: a heart, a star, a diamond and an orange ball. The game’s rules describe the look as “a nice and cozy rubber style”, and that is exactly how it reads on screen: soft, pastel and slightly squashy.

Clusters and Refills

According to the rules, five or more matching symbols touching vertically or horizontally form a cluster. The cluster pays and disappears, the remaining symbols move down, and new ones fall in from above. Within one spin this repeats until no new cluster forms, so a single spin can pay several times.

On one of our spins at a bet of 10.00, two clusters paid +10.00 and +1.00 for a total of 11.00; another paid 13.00 for a cluster running through two gold W coins.

W Symbols and Wilds

The gold coins marked W are more than decoration. When W symbols are part of a winning cluster, they disappear and two Wild symbols take their place, staying until the next spin. BGaming’s page calls these “Backlit” symbols: after every spin, randomly chosen low symbols start to shine. If several clusters form this way, the rule applies once for all of them, and a single refill can create at most two wilds.

The Wild itself substitutes for any symbol, and the rules add one detail worth knowing: it is not affected by the four Progress Bar features described below.

Big Symbols

When four identical symbols land in a square, they merge into a single 2x2 Big symbol. If it is part of a winning cluster, that win is doubled; if several Big symbols take part, their multipliers are combined. During a refill a Big symbol can break back into four normal symbols. One of our screenshots shows a purple 2x2 square marked x2 next to a block of wild coins.

Re-Spin

A spin that ends without a win is not always over. The Re-Spin feature can turn a random number of symbols into wilds and recalculate the result; our screenshot shows the R coin with spinning arrows announcing it. The rules note that it can also break a Big symbol.

The Progress Bar

Under the grid runs a Progress Bar of 100 points in four segments. Every symbol that takes part in a winning cluster moves it by one point. Every 25 points trigger one random feature:

  • Wild Blast – turns 3 to 6 symbols into wilds, and each wild destroys its four neighbours without payment. In our screenshot a B coin fired it on a spin that ended on 35.00.
  • Smash – destroys every low symbol without payment. After our Smash, only hearts, stars, diamonds and orange balls were left on the board.
  • X-Lines – places a wild in the centre of the grid and turns every symbol on its diagonals into one and the same random symbol.
  • Clone – turns one randomly chosen symbol and all its copies into another symbol.

Because every winning symbol counts, big clusters move the bar much faster than small ones – a 15-symbol cluster does as much as three 5-symbol ones.

Wild Drop: Three Waves of Wilds

When the bar reaches 100, the Wild Drop starts – BGaming’s page calls it the Pot – and a gold Bonus Active ribbon appears on the left. First a 3x3 wild lands. On the second refill it splits into two 2x2 wilds, and on the third into nine single wilds. Wilds that win disappear.

Our screenshots catch two of those stages: two giant W wilds on the grid at once, with a cascade that added +580.00 – 58x the bet, and nine W coins standing together in a 3x3 block.

Buying the Bonus

The Buy Bonus button sells the Wild Drop directly; the feature triggers on the next spin, and the price follows the bet. At a bet of 10.00 it was 1,000.00 – 100x the bet.

Theme and Presentation

The design is bright and soft – pastel colours, rounded corners and bubbles that press in when they pop, with light rhythmic music underneath. It is a calm look for a very volatile game, and the contrast is part of the joke in the name. The game is fully optimised for mobile play.

Who It Is For

Pop Zen suits players who enjoy cluster slots with refills and plenty of small features. W coins, Big symbols and Re-Spins keep the base game busy, the Progress Bar gives each spin something to build towards, and the three waves of wilds make the bonus the part of the game worth waiting – or paying – for.
