How we rate games

Every slot is scored on the same four criteria, using the game's published data: RTP (40%), maximum win potential (25%), bonus features described in our review (30%) and how recent the release is (5%). Our editors can adjust a score after playing the game. Missing data counts as neutral. The score reflects the game's numbers and features, not your chances of winning; slots are games of chance, so please play responsibly.

Spirits of the Prairies Overview

Spirits of the Prairies is a Native American-themed slot from Platipus, released on 5 April 2024. It runs on a 5x3 grid with 243 ways to win, and it mixes a classic ways slot with a cash-collection bonus and a five-level jackpot ladder. The published figures are a 95% RTP, high volatility and a maximum win of 7,114x the bet. Stakes run from 0.25 to 25 per spin.

A Prairie Camp at Dusk

The reels stand in a wooden frame in front of a desert camp: tipis, cacti and red rock formations under an evening sky. The premium symbols are the animal spirits and the people of the plains – a white-haired chief in a feathered headdress, a bald eagle, a grey wolf and a brown bear – followed by a tomahawk, a ceremonial pipe and a painted drum. The lower symbols are the royals from A down to 9, drawn in coloured stone with feathers.

Five Jackpots Above the Reels

The jackpot panel sits across the top of the screen. At a FUN 50 stake it read:

  • Grand: 50,000 – 1,000x the bet
  • Maxi: 5,000 – 100x
  • Major: 1,250 – 25x
  • Minor: 500 – 10x
  • Mini: 250 – 5x

Because the values line up exactly with the stake, the jackpots are fixed multipliers rather than progressive pools. The Grand at 1,000x is the single biggest prize in the panel, but it is well short of the 7,114x ceiling – the rest has to come from the free spins and the cash collection stacking up.

How the Free Spins Start

The bonus symbol is a round golden sun medallion with a thunderbird in the centre. In our round three of them landed on reels 3, 4 and 5, paid FUN 100 – 2x the bet on the spot, and opened the free spins screen: “10 Free Spins – No minor symbols during free spins”, with the A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 shown crossed out. From that moment only the premium symbols, the wild and the bonus symbols spin, which is what makes the feature much stronger than the base game.

What Happened in the Free Spins

The round is easy to follow thanks to the counter in the top right and the total win at the bottom:

  • 9 free spins left: a win of 76 on eagles and chiefs, bringing the total to 176.
  • 6 free spins left: two blue coin orbs worth 100 and 200 landed above a green X1 collector symbol on the middle reel, and the spin paid 300 – exactly the sum of the two coins. The total rose to 1,340.
  • 5 free spins left: a block of four chiefs on reels 3 and 4 plus eagles across the board paid 252, and the total reached FUN 1,592 – about 32x the bet.

The coin spin is the most instructive one: the green collector with its X1 badge gathers every coin value on the reels and multiplies it. With a higher multiplier on the collector, the same two coins would have been worth two, three or more times as much.

Buying the Feature

The Feature Buy button on the right opens a wooden sign: “Buy Free Spins – FUN 2,200” at the FUN 50 stake, which is 44x the bet. Compared with the 2x that three bonus symbols paid on their own, the buy is the fast way in for players who do not want to wait for the trigger.

The Base Game

With 243 ways, any symbol that appears on adjacent reels from the left counts, regardless of its row. In the base game the royals fill most of the screen, and a stack of two chiefs on reel 2 surrounded by Qs and Js is typical of the small wins between features – one such spin returned just FUN 16 on a FUN 50 stake. The base game is there to deliver the bonus symbols; the money is in the feature.

What the Numbers Mean at Real Stakes

Because every jackpot is a fixed multiple of the bet, the ladder is easy to translate into money. At the minimum 0.25 stake the Grand is worth 250 and the Mini just 1.25; at the maximum 25 stake the Grand becomes 25,000 and the Mini 125. The published 7,114x ceiling would be 177,850 at the top stake. The buy scales the same way: 44x means 11 at the minimum bet and 1,100 at the maximum.

The Feature List

SlotCatalog lists the game with a bonus game, bonus symbols, a feature buy, a cash collector, fixed jackpots, free spins, scatter symbols and a wild. Our screenshots confirm most of that list directly: the sun medallions as the trigger, the free spins with the low symbols removed, the coin orbs with the green X1 collector, the five fixed jackpots and the buy button. What they do not show is a jackpot being won, so we cannot say from our own session exactly which combination awards each level.

Who It Is For

Spirits of the Prairies suits players who like high-volatility ways slots with a clear goal. The five fixed jackpots are always visible, the free spins remove every low symbol, and the collector turns coin landings into real wins. Expect quiet spells in the base game, and use the 44x buy if you want to go straight to the part of the game that pays.
