Treats of Terror Overview

Treats of Terror is a five-by-five grid slot from Play’n GO paying anywhere rather than on lines, with a 96.21% RTP, high volatility and a published ceiling of 10,000x. It was released on 15 May 2025.

The premise is horror cinema crossed with concession-stand junk food: every symbol is a snack with eyes. All figures below were read from demo play at a 5.00 bet, with the paytable captured at 1.50.

A Cinema That Has Seen Better Days

The grid stands in a purple-lit cinema foyer, concrete pillars either side, a torn poster for a monster feature pinned on the left wall and a neon marquee on the right reading THE ROTTING.

The symbols are film-strip frames containing the larger creatures – a popcorn box with legs, a hot dog with a face, a drinks cup dripping red – while the low symbols are jelly-bean blobs in green, orange, pink and blue, each with a pair of eyes and a printed letter or number.

Six Symbols Anywhere

There are no paylines and no clusters. A win needs six or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid, and the paytable pays in bands from six upward.

At the 1.50 stake the popcorn leads: 30.00 for ten or more, 18.00 for nine, 12.00 for eight, 6.00 for seven and 3.00 for six. The hot dog pays 18.00, 10.80, 7.20, 3.60 and 1.80. The drinks cup pays 12.00, 7.20, 4.80, 2.40 and 1.20.

Converted to the stake, ten or more popcorn is worth 20x and six is worth 2x. That is the whole of the base paytable – which means the 10,000x ceiling does not live here at all.

Where the Ceiling Actually Lives

Four prize chips run down the right of the grid, and they are stated as multipliers, not cash: GRAND x1000, MAJOR x250, MINOR x100 and MINI x25.

Note that even the GRAND, at 1,000x, is only a tenth of the published maximum. The remaining distance has to come from the multipliers stacking on top of collected prizes – so the biggest outcomes in this game are compound events, not a single jackpot drop.

The Multiplier Blobs

Scattered through the captures are symbols carrying a printed multiplier: x1, x2, x5, x7, x8, x9, x10 and, in the best capture, x20. They sit on the grid like any other symbol and attach to what is collected.

One capture makes the arithmetic visible. A cash prize reading 45.00 sits beside a blob marked x9, and the spin total comes out at 64.00 – 12.8x the 5.00 stake. Another shows a x20 blob next to a crowned collector, paying 100.00, or 20x from a single spin.

Where the Multipliers Sit

The blobs are not confined to one part of the grid. The captures catch a x10 in the top-left corner and a x7 two rows down on the same spin, a x5 on the left edge beside a MINOR chip, and a pair reading x2 and x1 side by side along the bottom row.

Because the game pays anywhere, position carries no meaning for the base symbols – but it clearly does for these. Two blobs on one grid is common in the captures; three is not.

Prize Symbols and the Collector

A message along the foot of the screen states the rule outright: PRIZE Symbols are collected by the Collector Symbol.

So the grid carries three distinct kinds of special symbol at once – cash prizes with printed values, multiplier blobs, and a crowned collector that sweeps the prizes in. A capture shows a prize labelled MINOR sitting on the grid alongside a yellow SCATTER box and a x5 blob, which is the game at its most crowded.

It also explains the volatility rating. A spin needs the prizes, the multipliers and the collector to be present together before any of them are worth much, and most spins will carry only one of the three.

What the Session Paid

The captured spins span the full range. A quiet grid returned 0.66 and another 1.44 – well under the stake. A cash prize of 5.00 with a x1 blob paid exactly 5.00. A wider hit paid 36.72, and a purple popcorn spread with a x8 blob paid 40.00, or 8x.

The balance ran 25,005.00 down to 24,826.50 and back to 25,005.00 across the run – a flat line punctuated by the two 12.8x and 20x spins, which is precisely what high volatility looks like over a short sample.

Cascades and Free Spins

Winning symbols clear and new ones drop in, so a single spin can resolve several times. The captures show the grid mid-cascade with winning positions blanked out and the multiplier blobs still in place – the blobs persist across the drop, which is what allows a x9 or x20 to attach to a later prize rather than the first one.

The SCATTER boxes are drawn as golden popcorn cartons with the word printed across them, and are the route into the free spins round. One capture shows two of them on the grid at once with a MINOR chip and a x5 blob between them, the whole column lit purple – the moment a spin stops being ordinary.

The Bet Selector

Play’n GO gives this one a five-step stake bar along the foot – 2.00, 2.50, 3.00, 4.00 and 5.00 – with the active figure highlighted in amber, plus a separate BET field to the right.

A small ghost icon sits at the bottom left for the paytable and a coin stack at the bottom right for the win counter. There is no turbo toggle and no autoplay shortcut on the main bar; both live behind the circular buttons beside the spin key.

The narrow stake range is worth noting alongside the volatility. On a high-variance game the usual advice is to drop the stake and extend the session, and here there is not much room to do it – the bottom of the bar is less than half the top.

Who Should Play It

Treats of Terror is a Halloween slot with real craft behind the gag. The art is genuinely funny, the pay-anywhere grid is forgiving to read, and the three-layer special-symbol system gives a spin several ways to become interesting.

The honest caution is the gap between the base paytable and the ceiling. Twenty times your stake is the most the symbols themselves will produce; everything above that depends on prizes, collectors and multipliers arriving at once. A 96.21% return is fair, but it is delivered in a very uneven rhythm.
