Aftermath Overview

Aftermath is a post-apocalyptic slot from NetEnt, released on 3 September 2026. In its wasteland, humanity has turned against a rogue AI, and ordinary office workers have swapped spreadsheets for scrap-metal blades, traffic-sign shields and golf clubs. The game starts on a 4-reel, 6-row grid that can expand up to 6x8, and it pays with the Scatter Pays (pay anywhere) mechanic instead of paylines.

The RTP is 96.05%, the volatility is medium, the hit frequency is listed at 22%, bets run from 0.20 to 40, and the maximum payout is a huge 25,000x the bet. Scatter Pays and Avalanches

Every win triggers an Avalanche: the winning symbols disappear, new ones fall into place, and the wins are evaluated again. Avalanches continue until no new wins appear.

The Multiplier

Each winning combination increases the multiplier by x1, and the new value applies to the following wins in the same spin. In the base game, the multiplier lasts through the Avalanches but resets between spins. In Bonus Spins and Super Bonus Spins, it carries over until the end of the feature – which is why long bonus rounds can build very large multipliers.

Wild Symbols

Wilds can appear anywhere on the reels and substitute in the scatter combinations. Alongside the standard Wild, there are versions carrying a +2 to +10 multiplier value, so a single wild can push the running multiplier up much faster than ordinary wins.

Expanding Reels

The play area starts at 4x6. When the Bomb or Purge features trigger, they can unlock locked positions, up to a maximum of 6 reels and 8 rows. Special Features: Bomb, Upgrade, Change, Purge

Four special feature symbols can activate in all game modes, once the Avalanches have ended and the wins have been evaluated. If several land at once, only one activates at a time, in this order:

• Bomb – explodes and removes itself, all regular symbols in the 8 surrounding positions and any locked positions involved, making way for an Avalanche. Each exploding Bomb doubles the multiplier for the current spin, and Bombs stay fixed during the Avalanche.
• Upgrade – replaces itself and a random number of low-pay symbols with the highest or second-highest paying symbol on the reels.
• Change – turns itself and the regular symbols around it into one of those neighbouring symbols, chosen at random (or into the highest-pay symbol if no regular symbols are nearby).
• Purge – removes itself, all wall portions, and all medium- and low-pay symbols, clearing the grid for an Avalanche.

Bonus Spins

In the main game, 3, 4 or 5 Scatters award 8, 10 or 12 Bonus Spins. During the round, each Scatter adds 3 extra spins. A Super Scatter also adds 3 spins and upgrades the round to Super Bonus Spins. The multiplier and the unlocked positions carry over for the whole round.

Super Bonus Spins

If the 3, 4 or 5 Scatters in the main game include a Super Scatter, you go straight to 8, 10 or 12 Super Bonus Spins. On every spin of this mode, a special Wild with a +3 to +10 multiplier value is guaranteed to land. Up to one scatter can land per spin, adding 3 more Super Bonus Spins.

The Elevate Feature

The Elevate button offers five options, one per game round:

• Power Boost (25x) – the spin starts with a random multiplier from x5 to x10,

How the Features Work Together

Most of Aftermath’s mechanics feed the same multiplier. Every win in an Avalanche chain adds x1, multiplier wilds add their value on top, and every Bomb doubles the current figure. In the base game all of this resets after the spin, but in the bonus rounds the multiplier never resets, and the grid keeps the extra positions opened by Bombs and Purges. A bonus round therefore tends to get stronger the longer it lasts: a larger grid means more symbols, more matches, longer Avalanches and an ever-higher multiplier.

The 25,000x Maximum Win

The maximum payout is 25,000x the bet. When the total win reaches it, the round ends and pays the full amount. Realistically, it takes a Super Bonus Spins round where the carried-over multiplier, the guaranteed multiplier wilds and a few Bombs work together.
