Ape Frenzy Overview

Ape Frenzy is a five-reel, three-row video slot from Triple Cherry, released on 12 August 2024. It has 25 paylines, a published RTP of 90.11%, low-medium volatility and a maximum win of 650x the bet. Stakes run from €0.50 to €50 per spin.

The game is offered in several RTP settings, so the return can differ between operators. The numbers below come from our own demo session, played at €50 and €40 bets.

Snow Monkeys in a Hot Spring

The reels float as a frosted glass panel over a Japanese mountain village: wooden bathhouses under snow, cherry blossoms, and a steaming hot spring in the foreground. It is the setting of the famous snow monkeys that bathe in the springs, and the game’s cast follows the idea.

The game title sits above the reels in bold blue and red letters, and the interface below is kept minimal: a dark bar with the bet, the last prize and the balance, all shown in euros in the demo.

The premium symbols are four cartoon apes – a yellow one raising a beer mug, a red one, a blue one resting in the water and a green one. The low symbols are chunky pastel letters A, K, Q and J. The wild is a monkey on a triangular tile, and the BONUS symbol is a green ape holding a sign.

The Paytable

The prize table shows cash values for the current bet. At a €40 stake we could read these clearly:

  • Wild: 5 = €1,600, 4 = €480, 3 = €120 – five wilds are worth 40x the bet
  • A: €160 / €32 / €8, and K: €140 / €32 / €8
  • Q and J: €64 / €16 / €4 each

The four apes sit between the wild and the letters. Pays run left to right from the first reel, and the wild substitutes for every symbol except the BONUS.

What the Base Game Pays

With 25 lines and a low-medium profile, the base game returns small amounts often. At €50 our captures showed wins of €10, €55, €60 and €65 – from 0.2x to 1.3x the bet.

That fits the published profile. A 650x cap is modest for a modern slot, and a game with this ceiling spreads its return over many small wins rather than a few big ones.

The Lucky Roulette

The main feature is a bonus wheel. The rules state it plainly: “Get 3 BONUS symbols in the same spin in any position and win a spin in the lucky roulette.”

The wheel is carved out of snowy rock, with a big SPIN stone in the middle. Its segments carry bet multipliers – we could read values from 1 up to 100 – and several FREE SPINS segments. Our spin at a €40 bet stopped on 10 and paid a Big Win of €400, exactly 10x the stake.

The highest value we could read on the wheel, 100, would be worth 100x the bet – well below the 650x ceiling. The bigger results must therefore come from the free spins segments, which lead to a separate round that we did not reach in our session.

A win on the wheel is celebrated with a full-screen scene: the snow monkeys relax in the hot spring, bananas fly across the screen and the amount appears in large gold letters.

Buying the Bonus

The BONUS button next to the spin controls opens the Free Spins Phase screen: “Immediate access to the BONUS feature”. You set the bet and the number of purchases, and the game shows the total cost before you press Start.

The dialog closes with a clear warning: “Pressing START will deduct the total cost from the player’s balance.” The number of purchases can be raised with the plus button, and the total grows with it, so several bonus spins can be bought in one go.

At a €40 bet, one purchase cost €1,796 – about 44.9x the stake. Our own wheel spin paid 10x, so the buy is only worth it if you expect the higher segments or the free spins to come up.

What the Buy Did to Our Balance

The balance line at the bottom of the screen tells the whole story of the purchase. Before the buy it stood at €2,000. Paying €1,796 for the feature left €204, and the wheel then stopped on 10 for a €400 win. The round cost €1,396 overall – a reminder that a 10x wheel result does not come close to paying for a 44.9x purchase.

The base game told a similar story. Our captures at €50 a spin show balances between €1,610 and €855. With wins of 0.2x to 1.3x the bet, that is what a low-return game looks like over a few dozen spins.

Lines and Controls

The rules page draws all 25 prize lines as small grids, from the three straight rows to V shapes and zigzags. Non-winning symbols fade to transparent after each spin, so the winning line is always easy to spot. The controls below the reels are simple: a BONUS button for the buy, an autoplay button, the spin button, a MAX button that jumps to the highest bet, and minus and plus buttons around the bet field.

SlotCatalog tags the game with a bonus wheel, a buy feature, free spins, scatter symbols and an RTP range, and lists its themes as Japan, monkeys, mountains and snow.

The Numbers to Keep in Mind

The 90.11% RTP is well below the industry average of around 96%, and it is the most important figure to know before you play. The rules page in the demo also shows the return in its RTP section, so you can check the setting before playing. The low-medium volatility and 650x cap make the game gentle, but the lower return means the house edge is larger than usual.

This is typical of the studio. Other Triple Cherry games we have reviewed publish similar figures – Lotus Geisha lists 90.11% and Babylon Gardens 90.25% – so a return around 90% is the norm for this developer rather than an exception. If you like the style, it is worth knowing that the whole catalogue works this way.

Who Should Play It

Ape Frenzy suits players who like a calm, good-looking game with one simple feature. The snow-monkey theme is charming, the wheel is easy to follow, and the demo above lets you enjoy it without risk.
