A Day on the Water

The reels float over a calm sea under a pink and blue sunrise sky. The high symbols are fishing gear – a tackle box, a rod and reel, a red and white float and a feathered fly lure – plus a silver fish, and the card ranks from 10 to A are drawn in bright colours.

The fisherman is the Wild, and a white fishing boat with the word Bonus is the scatter. Some fish on the reels carry a cash value, such as 12.50 or 25.00 in our session; these values only matter in the free spins.

The Paytable

The fisherman substitutes for every symbol except the boat. If a line pays more than one combination, only the highest win counts, and combinations only pay from left to right. In our session three Ks on a line paid 12.50, half the bet.

The rules page draws all ten bet lines on the 5x4 grid. With only ten lines across twenty positions, many symbols on the screen do not sit on any active line, which is one reason why the base game pays rarely.

The Base Game in Practice

Our base-game captures were quiet. Apart from the 12.50 line of Ks, most spins returned nothing, and the balance drifted from 737.50 down to 662.50 before the free spins arrived. The fish values on the reels – 12.50 and 25.00 in our spins – stay on the screen in the base game but are not paid; they only come to life when a fisherman lands during the feature.

Triggering the Free Spins

Scattered Bonus boats start the free spins. In our capture four boats landed across the grid, and the game opened the free spins introduction screen before the round began.

That screen sums up the whole feature in three sentences: the fisherman collects all the fish and adds them to the win from the spin, multipliers multiply the value of the fish inside the position, and progressing along the panel with the fishermen gets you multipliers and extra free spins.

The Fisherman Collects

During the free spins, every fisherman Wild that lands collects the cash value of all the fish on the reels. In our round a single fisherman on the fifth reel collected 125.00 on one spin, and later in the round the same mechanic produced a BIG WIN of 250.00.

Multiplier Pockets

The feature grid is divided into pockets framed by rope, and some of them carry a multiplier such as x2, x3, x4, x5 or x9. Red Rake explains that each fish landing in a position with a multiplier has its value multiplied by that number.

The multipliers also add up. The rules give an example: if a x2 multiplier lands in a pocket that already has x3, the new multiplier is x5; if it lands in an empty pocket, the multiplier there is x2. By the end of our round almost every pocket on the grid had a multiplier, several of them x5 and above.

The Fishermen Panel

A column of fishermen portraits runs down the left of the grid. Every fisherman who lands moves you one step along this panel, and some steps award a new multiplier or extra spins. In our round a +5 FREE SPINS message appeared early on, and later steps brought x2 and x3 multipliers into play.

Our Free Spins Round

The round grew steadily as the multipliers spread. One spin near the end showed a single collect of 2,687.50 on the fisherman at the bottom right, the spin itself paid 2,273.07, and the total win for the round stood at 4,518.44 with two free spins still left – already more than 180x the total bet.

That result shows how the game works: the line wins are small, but once the multiplier pockets fill up, every fisherman becomes a large collect.
