Chef de Tacos Overview

Chef de Tacos is a Mexican food slot from the studio Triple Cherry, released on 6 March 2024. Its reels are set out in a 3-4-4-4-3 shape, so the outer reels are shorter than the three in the middle, and it pays on 40 lines. SlotCatalog lists an RTP of 94.1%, low volatility and a maximum win of 311x the stake. Bets range from 0.50 to 50 per spin.

A Street Kitchen in Mexico

The reels stand on a purple board with a painted wooden frame, cut at the corners into an eight-sided shape. Behind it is a blurred Mexican street at dusk, with warm lamps, plants and colourful buildings. Strings of papel picado – the cut paper flags used at Mexican festivals – hang along the bottom of the grid.

The symbols are all dishes and ingredients, drawn in a bright, glossy style: tacos, burritos, nachos, a plate of fried snacks, a bowl of guacamole, a bowl of salsa, red chili peppers and a cob of grilled corn.

Symbols and Payouts

The four plated dishes are the higher-paying symbols and share the same values for three, four and five of a kind. The two bowls come next, and the chili peppers and corn cob pay the least. The paytable notes that wins count for matching symbols from left to right, starting on the leftmost reel.

With low volatility and a 311x cap, the line wins are small but frequent. In our screenshots, a spin with several taco plates paid 105.00 on a 15.00 stake, which is 7 times the bet, and another paid 30.00, or twice the bet.

The Collection Meter

The feature that makes Chef de Tacos different is a collection meter in a green panel above the reels. It shows one dish, a counter out of six and a cash prize. In one screenshot the meter showed a burrito at 4/6 with a prize of 150.00 (10x the stake), and in another a different dish at 0/6 with a prize of 375.00 (25x).

The screenshots suggest that the target dish and the prize change from one meter to the next, and that filling all six steps pays the amount shown. The game did not explain in our screens how the steps are counted, so we can only describe what the meter displays.

Free Spins

The bonus round gives 7 free spins. According to the game description on SlotCatalog, it is linked to the chili symbols. When the round starts, a “You won 7 free spins!” screen appears over a night-time view of the street, and the grid changes to a free spins frame with lanterns at the top.

During the round, golden W wild tiles appear on the reels. The paytable has a separate section for the symbols in free spins. A counter below the grid shows the spins left and the total prize. In our round, two wilds on the first reels helped a single spin pay 54.00 on a 15.00 stake.
