Clover Charm: Hit the Bonus Overview

Clover Charm: Hit the Bonus is an Irish-themed slot from Playson, released on 21 March 2024. It is built on a small 3x3 grid with no paylines at all: the base game exists only to trigger the bonus, and every win comes from the Hold and Win round. SlotCatalog lists an RTP of 95.66%, medium volatility and a maximum win of 10,000x the stake, with bets from 0.20 to 100. The game has more than one RTP setting, so the value can differ between casinos.

Playson launched it as the first title in its “Hit the Bonus” format, an evolution of the studio’s popular Hold and Win series.

Green Clovers and a Rainbow

The grid glows bright green against a dark green background dotted with small clover leaves. The Clover Charm logo sits above the reels with a large four-leaf clover behind it, flanked by four jackpot plates. When a multiplier appears, a rainbow rises over the grid – the classic Irish image of the road to a pot of gold.

How the Base Game Works

To trigger the bonus, three symbols of any kind must land on the middle row. The green clover Bonus symbols carry cash values of 1x to 5x the bet. The game also has Sticky Bonus symbols – green clovers on a gold background – worth 5x to 9x the bet. They stay on the reels until the middle row is complete, so each one brings the bonus closer.

Our first screenshot shows exactly that moment: three clovers worth 100.00, 200.00 and 100.00 on a 100.00 stake fill the middle row, and the bonus starts.

The Bonus Game

In the Bonus Game, the symbols that triggered it stay on the grid, and new ones land in the empty cells during the respins. A small bar under the grid tracks the respins. Next to the Bonus symbols, several special symbols can appear:

Boost symbols, drawn in bright rainbow colours, collect the values of all Bonus tiles in view, including the Mini, Minor and Major jackpot icons. The Mystery symbol, a leprechaun’s green hat, turns into a Bonus, Jackpot or Boost symbol. The Mystery Jackpot, a pot of gold, always turns into a Mini, Minor or Major jackpot.

Four Jackpots

Four fixed jackpots are shown above the grid. At a 100.00 stake our screenshots showed the Mini at 1,000.00 (10x), the Minor at 2,000.00 (20x), the Major at 5,000.00 (50x) and the Grand at 100,000.00 (1,000x). The Grand is awarded when all nine cells of the grid are filled with symbols. During the round, a small number appears next to the Grand plate.

Multipliers and the Rainbow

The multiplier feature can be triggered at random during the Bonus Game or the Ultra Bonus Game. A rainbow arcs over the grid and brings multipliers such as x2 and x4 with it. In our screenshots, the rainbow over the first reel carried an x4 and an x2. Playson says multipliers of up to x16 can appear.

The Ultra Bonus Game

The Ultra Bonus Game is the stronger version of the round. Its promise, written on the buy screen, is simple: “Multipliers guaranteed!” The preview shows a grid that already has several Bonus symbols, a Mystery and a jackpot icon in place.

Buying the Bonus

Because the base game pays nothing, the Bonus Buy is an important part of the game. The Bonus Game costs 30x the bet and the Ultra Bonus Game 75x; on our 100.00 stake the prices were 3,000.00 and 7,500.00. The button sits on the left of the grid.

Who Will Enjoy It

This slot suits players who find the base game of most Hold and Win slots slow and want to get to the bonus as fast as possible. The sticky clovers make every spin a step towards the round, and the two buy options offer a fixed way in. Players who like a steady flow of small line wins will miss them here – there are none.

Our Verdict

Clover Charm: Hit the Bonus is a bold, focused idea from Playson: remove the paylines and build everything around one feature. It works well thanks to the sticky clovers, the Boost and Mystery symbols and the rainbow multipliers, and the 1,000x Grand gives the round a real target.
