Lucky Toad Overview

Lucky Toad is a five-reel slot from FunTa Gaming with 40 paylines, an RTP of 96.55%, a low volatility rating and a published ceiling of 999x. It was released on 5 February 2025.

Two of those figures deserve attention before anything else. A low volatility rating is rare in the games we cover, and a ceiling of 999x rather than a round thousand is the sort of number a studio chooses deliberately.

A Golden Toad on a Red Lacquer Screen

The setting is Chinese New Year, rendered warmly rather than garishly: red lacquered panels behind the reels, cherry blossom branches leaning in from the left, and a paper lantern glowing in the corner.

Perched on top of the frame is the game’s namesake – a golden toad, the Jin Chan of Chinese folklore, flanked by two round gold medallions.

The symbols are prosperity objects: a treasure pot spilling gold, a silver ingot, a red envelope stuffed with notes, a jade character tile, and a set of gems in green, teal and amber. Gold coins with square holes drift across the reels between spins.

The Game States Its Own Formula

The paytable opens with a line most studios leave unwritten: Payout = Bet × Symbol Odds.

That single sentence removes all the usual ambiguity about whether a printed figure is a line value, a coin value or a bet multiple. The numbers beside each symbol are odds, and you multiply them by your bet.

The treasure pot leads at 36 for five, 12 for four and 6 for three. The silver ingot follows at 26, 10 and 5; the red envelope at 16, 8 and 4.

The gems are the cheap end. The green gem pays 10 for five, 6 for four and 3 for three, while the teal and amber gems close the table at 5, 2 and 1.

So the spread runs from 5x to 36x for a full line. Set that against the published ceiling of 999x and it is clear the paytable is not where the money is – it is roughly a twenty-eighth of the maximum.

Note also how evenly the table is graded. Thirty-six, twenty-six, sixteen, ten, five – each step is roughly a third smaller than the one above it, with no two symbols sharing a price except the two cheapest gems. That is a more considered ladder than the flat blocks most games of this size use.

The Multiplier Does the Work

A scroll unfurls above the reels between spins carrying a multiplier, and in our captures it reads 18x.

That is a striking figure next to a paytable topping out at 36. An 18x scroll turns a five-gem line worth 5x into something worth ninety times the bet, which is how a game with these odds reaches anywhere near its ceiling.

During the bonus round two further plates appear, one on each side of the toad: 20X beside an orchid on the left, and 10X on the right. Two separate multipliers live at once.

The combination explains the 999x cap. Thirty-six times the bet from the best line, multiplied up by the scroll and the bonus plates, lands just short of a thousand – and the studio capped it one short rather than rounding up.

The scroll appears between spins rather than during them, which means you can see what the next result will be multiplied by before you commit to it – a small but genuine piece of information the player gets for free.

The Bonus Game

The round announces itself with a gold scroll reading BONUS GAME across the middle of the screen, the toad and both multiplier plates visible behind it.

What follows is the best-looking screen in the game. The grid fills almost entirely with gold flower medallions and two large chrysanthemums, coins showering down the sides, and the win box reading 1,300.

The 1,600 came from a board of red envelopes and a jade character tile filling the left three reels; the 1,100 from a column of green gems beside amber ones. Both are cheap symbols carried by volume.

Four spins, none returning less than three times the stake and none returning more than sixteen. That narrow band is exactly what a low volatility rating describes, and it is unusual enough in this market to be the main reason to pick this game.

Forty Lines, Drawn Out

The rules screen is blunt about the count – 40 lines to win – and prints every one of them as a numbered grid diagram across several pages.

Forty lines on a grid this size means most spins touch something, which is the other half of the low-volatility arrangement: frequent returns, modest sizes, and a balance that moves slowly in either direction.
