Ocean Journey Overview

Ocean Journey is an underwater slot from Amigo Gaming, released in November 2024. A giant red octopus wraps its tentacles around a 6x6 grid of sharks, manta rays, crabs, seahorses and shells, with 50 fixed paylines running across it. The studio rates the game at medium-low volatility and sets the maximum win at 2,500x the bet. Stakes run from 0.50 to 100 per spin. The features are simple: an octopus that turns into an expanding wild, bonus scatters and a round of free games.

A Big Grid With Short Wins

Six reels and six rows make 36 positions, which is a lot more than the usual 5x3. The 50 lines are drawn in the info screen as small diagrams – straight rows, V shapes, steps and zig-zags that climb from the bottom to the top row. With so many symbols on screen, lines tend to land several at a time, and the win meter at the bottom shows how many paid on each spin as “Lines Played”.

The Paytable

At a €100 bet, the paytable screen gives these values. Unusually, the top symbols pay for up to six of a kind:

Two pairs of symbols share identical values: the manta ray and the crab, and the red shell and the conch. That leaves five real pay levels, which makes the table easy to learn. It also means the sixth reel matters: the step from five to six of a kind is worth four times more for the manta and crab (€500 to €2,000), five times for the shark and eight times for the seahorse.

The shark is the only symbol that already pays for two. The gap between the shark and everything else is large: six sharks on a line are worth two and a half times as much as six mantas or crabs, and fifty times as much as six shells.

How the Line Wins Add Up

The shells are the everyday symbols, and the screenshots show how they build totals. One spin covered the left side of the grid with red shells and paid €150 on 15 lines – exactly 15 times the €10 that three shells pay. Another filled the top rows with green clam shells and paid €370, again on 15 lines. With 50 lines, a block of identical low symbols pays many small lines at once, and that is where most of the base game’s wins come from.

Bonus Symbols and Free Games

The Bonus symbol, a pearl in an open shell, is the scatter. In our round three of them landed and paid €200 on their own – 2x the bet – before the game announced “You won 6 free games!” on an underwater panel full of bubbles. The free games counter then sits above the reels, and bonus symbols can still appear during the round.

The pearl bonus symbol behaves like a classic scatter. In our trigger the three bonus symbols sat in different rows on the first three reels – not on any single line – and still paid 2x the total bet, so they count wherever they land. Three of them in the base game were enough to start the round.

The Octopus Wild

The octopus is the star of the free games. When it lands, it spreads its tentacles and turns the positions around it into WILD symbols, so one octopus becomes a whole block of wilds in the middle of the grid. With 50 lines crossing that area, a single expansion can complete a lot of lines at once.

Our screenshots show it twice. On free game 2 of 6 the octopus landed on a board full of seahorses, its wilds linked them across the grid, and the round’s win meter already stood at €1,231 after six paying lines. On the last free game the expansion paid a single €430 line and took the round meter to €1,700.60 – about 17x the bet from six free games.

Gold Coins on the Reels

During free games, gold coin symbols also appear on the reels – in one screenshot the second reel is almost full of them. SlotCatalog lists a cash collector among the game’s features. The coins are part of the reel set, but our screenshots do not show how their values are collected, so we leave the details to the game’s own rules.

Stakes and the Coin Button

The bet is set with the coin-stack button on the right of the bottom bar, from €0.50 up to €100 per spin. All 50 lines are always active, so the stake is simply the total bet, and every value in the paytable moves in proportion to it. At the minimum stake six sharks are worth €25; at the maximum they are worth €5,000.

Our Session in Numbers

We played the demo at the €100 maximum, and the balance at the bottom left tells the story of the session. The base game drifted down in small steps – €9,180 after one spin, €8,530 a few spins later – while the shell lines paid back €150 and €370 at a time. The bonus trigger brought the balance back to €9,800, and by the time we opened the paytable at the end of the session it stood at €13,290. That is typical of a medium-low volatility game: slow erosion in the base game, repaired by the free games.

What the Numbers Say

Put the paytable next to the 2,500x cap and the picture is clear. Six sharks pay 50x on one line. To reach 2,500x, a spin needs many high-paying lines at the same time – which is exactly what the octopus wild block in free games makes possible. In the base game, the typical result is a cluster of shells or seahorses paying ten or fifteen small lines, which fits the medium-low volatility rating.

Graphics and Sound

The grid stands in a stone frame on the sea floor, with coral, sea grass and a heap of gold coins below it. The octopus is drawn big and friendly, with wide eyes, and its tentacles curl around the whole frame. The symbols are bright and cartoonish: a grinning shark, a purple manta ray, a red crab and a green seahorse. The interface uses Amigo’s usual layout, with the balance on the left, the win meter in the middle and the bet on the right.

Who It Is For

Ocean Journey is for players who like big grids and frequent small wins. The 6x6 layout and 50 lines keep something happening on most spins, the medium-low volatility keeps the balance steady, and the octopus in free games is the one moment when the game can jump.
