Onmyoji Overview

Onmyoji is a shooting game from KA Gaming, released on 23 August 2023. It has no reels: you play an onmyoji – a court exorcist from old Japan in a tall black hat and pale blue robes – and knock down the spirits that drift across the screen, much like KA’s fishing games. KA Gaming lists it among its special games. No RTP, volatility or maximum win has been published for it, so we do not quote any.

The Spirits

The targets are yokai from Japanese folklore, drawn in a cute cartoon style: one-eyed paper umbrellas with long tongues, glowing blue paper lanterns, small green water imps, white and pink beckoning cats, little black soot balls and a floating carp streamer. The biggest target in our screenshots is a huge red fox with fanned-out tails that fills half the screen.

How a Hit Pays

The stake is set with the arrows in the bottom-left corner, and a defeated spirit bursts into coins. In one of our screenshots a string of gold coins snakes across the screen with a $100.00 prize above it. Across our three screenshots the demo balance read 99,823, 99,978 and 99,996.

The Controls

Four labelled buttons sit along the bottom edge, next to the balance and the freeplay stake box:

• Lock – marked with a crossed-sword icon.
• Auto – marked with a burst of light.
• Explode – a round blast icon.
• Power – a red shrine gate.

Presentation

The backdrop is a sunset sky over pagoda roofs and a full moon. The cover art adds two companions to the onmyoji: a tanuki with a leaf on its head and a shrine maiden in red and white.

Who It Is For

Onmyoji is for players who want something more active than spinning reels. You choose the targets, the big red fox is the most eye-catching of them, and the screen is busy enough that a session feels closer to an arcade game than to a slot. The trade-off is transparency: with no published RTP or maximum win, you are playing for the experience rather than the numbers.
