Spooky Coin Overview

Spooky Coin – full title Spooky Coin: Hold the Spin – is a Halloween fruit slot from Gamzix with 45 paylines, an RTP of 96.05%, a medium-high volatility rating and a maximum win of 5,000x the bet. It was released on 15 October 2024.

The unusual thing is the grid. Spooky Coin runs on a 3-5-3 layout: the middle reel is five symbols tall, while the two outer reels have three. The result is a cross-shaped playing field, and it matters for the bonus.

Fruit on a Blood-Red Table

The reels sit on deep red velvet, framed in gold with small skulls at the corners. Candles and stacks of gold coins burn at the top of the frame, and a cobweb stretches across the bottom-left.

The symbols mix a classic fruit machine with Halloween props. The fruits are plums, oranges, lemons and cherries; the premiums are a jack-o’-lantern, a bubbling cauldron, a witch’s hat and a purple-eyed ghost. Most symbols appear in stacked pairs, so whole blocks of the grid change at once.

The wild is a flaming red 666 WILD, and it appears on the middle reel, where it can connect wins across the cross.

The controls sit on the right in a vertical column: sound, a small play icon, the turbo lightning bolt, a large spin button, the bet stack and the menu. Win, bet and balance run along the bottom of the screen in the usual Gamzix layout.

The Paytable

Spooky Coin pays for three of a kind on a line, and the paytable lists only that value. At a 100.00 bet:

The pumpkin pays 1,000.00 (10x), the cauldron 800.00, the witch’s hat and the ghost 500.00 each. The plum, orange and lemon pay 100.00 each, and the cherry 50.00.

Because the symbols come in stacks and there are 45 lines, a single spin can pay the same symbol on many lines at once. Our base-game wins show how that adds up: 200.00 from a block of cherries, 250.00 with the 666 wild in play, 400.00 from plums, 600.00 from lemons around a wild, and 1,000.00 – 10x – from ghosts and pumpkins connected through the wild on the middle reel.

The 666 wild is what lifts those numbers. On the 1,000.00 spin, a stack of ghosts on the left reel and a stack of pumpkins on the right were joined by the wild in the centre, and every line crossing it paid. Without the wild, the same board would have paid almost nothing, because the outer reels held different symbols.

The stacking also explains why cherry and plum wins arrive so often. Two or three stacked pairs on adjacent reels line up on several of the 45 lines at once, and the game counts each line separately.

Four Fixed Jackpots

Four jackpot plaques run down the left side of the screen. At a 100.00 bet they read:

GRAND 100,000.00 (1,000x), MAJOR 15,000.00 (150x), MINOR 5,000.00 (50x) and MINI 2,500.00 (25x).

These are fixed multiples of the bet, not progressive pots. The Grand at 1,000x is a fifth of the 5,000x maximum, so the top result needs the Grand plus a board full of large coin values.

Hold the Spin

Gold pumpkin coins carry cash values – in our session 100.00, 200.00 and 600.00. Land enough of them and the Hold the Spin bonus starts: the regular symbols disappear, the coins lock in place, and a counter shows 3 respins.

Every new coin that lands resets the counter to three. The cross-shaped grid has 19 positions in total, and the bonus is played on exactly that shape.

Our round started with a silver coin on the left reel and a column of gold coins on the middle reel. It ended with four coins on the middle reel and the total shown in a banner above the grid: 3,500.00, or 35x the bet.

The coin values we saw on the gold coins – 100, 200 and 600 – are 1x, 2x and 6x the bet, and a silver coin worth 100.00 also appeared on the outer reel. Jackpot coins can replace cash values during the round, which is how the fixed prizes on the left are won.

The shape of the grid is what makes the bonus interesting. The middle reel alone holds five of the nineteen positions, so a column of coins there fills a quarter of the board quickly, while the outer reels are harder to complete.

Before the bonus started, three gold coins had landed on the middle reel and two more on the outer reels, alongside ghosts, plums, hats and a lemon. That board is the trigger screen, and the coins on it carried straight into the respins.
