How we rate games

Every slot is scored on the same four criteria, using the game's published data: RTP (40%), maximum win potential (25%), bonus features described in our review (30%) and how recent the release is (5%). Our editors can adjust a score after playing the game. Missing data counts as neutral. The score reflects the game's numbers and features, not your chances of winning; slots are games of chance, so please play responsibly.

Steamboat Ride: Hold and Win Overview

Steamboat Ride: Hold and Win is a steampunk slot from Eurasian Gaming, released on 21 July 2025. It plays on a compact 3x3 grid with 5 paylines, and SlotCatalog lists it with an RTP of 95%, medium volatility and a maximum win of 25,000x the bet, with stakes from $0.10 to $50.

Eurasian Gaming’s demos cannot be embedded on third-party sites, so there is no playable demo on this page. All figures below come from our own session, played at 10.00 per line, a total bet of 50.00.

First Class on the River

The game takes place inside the saloon of an old paddle steamer, with leather seats, brass gears and round windows looking out over the water. The reels sit in a copper frame covered in cogs and pressure gauges.

The symbols are the passengers: a gentleman raising a glass, a waiter with a silver cloche, a photographer with an old camera, a crowd on the riverbank, a set of steam pipes and the steamboat itself as the wild. Jewelled Q, J and A symbols fill the rest of the grid.

Below the reels the game shows the bet per line with plus and minus buttons, a Buy button, the spin button and Auto, together with the balance, the total bet and the last win. The bottom line confirms the setup: “Betting 50.00 on 5 lines”. A Buy Feature button with the current price is fixed to the right of the grid.

The Paytable

Only three of a kind pays, and the info page lists the values for the current bet. At 10.00 per line the WILD and the gentleman with the glass both pay 2,500.00 – 50x the total bet. The riverbank crowd pays 1,500.00, the photographer 1,000.00, and the waiter and the steam pipes 800.00 each.

With just five lines and a 3x3 grid, a single line win of one of these picture symbols is already a large result compared with the stake.

Expressed per line, the top value of 2,500.00 at 10.00 per line is 250 times the line bet, and the waiter’s 800.00 is 80 times the line bet. At the maximum stake of $50 the published 25,000x ceiling would be worth $1,250,000.

What the Base Game Paid

Our captures line up with the table. Three gentlemen with glasses on the bottom row paid exactly 2,500.00, the full 50x. Three A symbols across the middle row returned 200.00, 4x the bet.

A column of steamboat wilds on the third reel turned two rows of J symbols into winning lines, and the spin paid 600.00 – 12x. The wild substitutes for the regular symbols, so a full wild reel connects with anything on the first two reels.

Over these base-game captures the balance rose from 9,850.00 to 10,700.00, which shows how a single picture-symbol line can move the balance on a five-line game.

The Hold and Win Feature

Bonus symbols show a group of showgirls with a cash value, such as 50.00, 100.00, 200.00 or 350.00. Three of them triggered the Hold and Win round, announced with a large banner across the reels.

In the round the bonus symbols stay on the grid while the empty positions spin again. The counter at the bottom read “Playing respins 4 of 5”, and the meter at the top showed 2,113.40. After the round the win field showed 2,150.00 – 43x the bet.

The feature changes the look of the game: the reels turn into a stage with red curtains, and only the bonus symbols remain visible, with values of 50.00, 200.00, 350.00 and 100.00 in the capture. The balance stood at 6,000.00 during the round and 8,150.00 after it.

SlotCatalog also lists sticky symbols and random multipliers for this game, which explains why the final total differs from a simple sum of the visible values.

Power Play: Buying the Bonus

The Power Play menu offers a Buy-Bonus Feature for 4,000.00 at our bet – 80x – which grants the bonus right after the next spin. The purchase is confirmed on a separate Buy Feature screen before it goes through.

Our natural Hold and Win round returned 2,150.00 – a little over half of the 4,000.00 buy price. One round says little about the long-run value of the purchase, but it shows that a bought feature can easily return less than it costs.

The Numbers to Keep in Mind

A 95% return is below the market average of around 96%. The medium volatility and the 25,000x ceiling point to a game where most spins return small amounts or nothing, while the Hold and Win round decides the session. On a 3x3 grid with five lines, many spins end without a win at all.
